Most of us have heard of “Christmas in July” -- a fun celebration of all things Christmas in the middle of the year.
In the United States, this unofficial holiday falls during the heat of summer, so you’ll probably want to skip the traditional hot cocoa, warm fires, and cozy sweaters. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t spread some holiday cheer and season’s greetings after your 4th of July barbecue!

How did Christmas in July start?
There are a few different origin stories behind Christmas in July, but this celebration is commonly believed to have started in the Southern Hemisphere, where December 25 falls during their summertime. People in countries like Australia, South Africa, and New Zealand like to get together in July (their wintertime) to enjoy all the traditional winter activities we associate with Christmas in the Northern Hemisphere.
In the U.S., people who celebrate Christmas in July often do so as a way to beat the heat and bring back happy reminders of the holiday season. Many retailers and cities across the country host themed celebrations complete with lights, giant Santa decorations, holiday gift sales (keep reading!), Christmas treats, and even fake snow.

After you’ve picked up your Christmas in July gift box from The Cookie Cups, it’s time to start planning your “holiday” celebration. Here are some fun ways to add Christmas-inspired festivities to your summer schedule.
