The 4th of July is right around the corner, and it's never too early to start planning your kids' party! Whether it's a laid-back BBQ or a full-blown pool party, there are countless ways to take advantage of the warm weather and time off. Here are some fun, kid-friendly activities to ensure everyone has a great time.

1. Make a backyard ‘water park.’

Keep cool this 4th of July with a DIY water park! Turn on the sprinklers and garden hose, set up some water balloons and buckets, and watch the magic happen! You can also create an obstacle course with objects you already have (such as plastic containers, pool toys, sports equipment) to keep the kids entertained for hours.

2. Let your kids camp outside overnight.

If you can’t make it to a campsite this year, bring the camping to your backyard! Set up a tent with plenty of pillows, blankets, and sleeping bags while it’s still light outside. As the evening winds down, you can watch the fireworks from the comfort of the tent — and maybe enjoy a s’more or two — before falling asleep under the stars.

3. Host an outdoor movie night.

Take movie night to the next level by taking it outdoors! Set up a projector to attach to your laptop or smartphone, hang up a white screen (a white bed sheet will do in a pinch), and pull out the lawn chairs for an unforgettable evening. Don’t forget the popcorn and soda!

4. Play red, white, and blue-themed games.

A little friendly competition can lead to a lot of festive fun! The theme of the day is red, white, and blue, and plenty of fan-favorite games can be easily adapted to this color scheme. You can break up guests into teams and set up an American flag relay race, a water balloon or bean bag toss, or even a themed scavenger hunt.

5. Help your kids cook or bake a treat for their guests.

Cooking as a family is a great way to bond with your kids, teach valuable kitchen skills, and have fun all at the same time! Pick out a recipe with the little ones and help them cook or bake something for their guests. Not only will they be incredibly proud of the work they’ve put in, but they can enjoy the fruits of their labor as they share tasty treats with their favorite people.

Not sure where to start? The Cookie Cups offers four different baking and cooking kits for chefs age 3+, now shipping nationwide or available for pickup in our stores.
